Are you a Good Witch or a Bad Witch? What Traditional Craft is...and what it isn't.

We have been blessed and cursed when it comes to understanding what a Witch is in modern times. The blessings of the information age has brought to us an endless amount of information at the stroke of a keyboard. We have almost instant access to any topic which we choose. Before this time, just learning a fraction of occult knowledge would have taken a lifetime. Endless searches for books on such topics such as witchcraft would have not been so easy as it is today. With just the click of a mouse, we can find vast information on any topic we choose. For that reason we are truly blessed.

But with the information age comes it problems....too much information. Until relatively recently, within the last decade or so, what is known as Traditional Witchcraft was mostly unknown. It was a very underground subject. Practically undefined by our modern society. Before that time, modern day Wicca was in the lime light. It gained popularity since its creation by Dr. Gerald Gardner in the 1950s. There is no doubt that Gardner was either part of or had intimate contact with a Traditional Witchcraft coven. However, it is theorized that he could not reveal the secrets of the coven. He was very limited on the information he was allowed to publish that was truly Traditional Witchcraft. Gardner took what he could reveal and mixed it with rituals, beliefs, and practices from other sources. He filled in the blanks from influences from the Magick of King Solomon, influences from Aleister Crowley, the pantheon of the Celtic gods, and other sources. I have also learned some interesting things though my own practices. It appears that Gardner revealed some things that Traditional witches do, however he reversed them to protect their secrets. We can see this with the clockwise movement in Wicca when casing a circle. This process creates a positive earthly vibration. However, in Traditional Craft they cast their circle (compass) by counterclockwise movements. This counterclockwise movement creates a wyrd, other worldly vibration in the atmosphere. An atmosphere perfectly designed to create a powerful spiritual place where man and spirits can communicate and interact.

So we must ask ourselves, how to we know what's legitimate and what's not? There is only one thing we can do....Raise our stang  high to the Gods, face them with an open mind and open heart, and prove to them that you are worth their gifts of wisdom. Truth comes to those who are brave enough to seek it out.
